Roy “Gene” McCracken, 79, of Springfield, Mo., passed away Monday, October 7, 2024, in his home in Springfield, Mo. under the care of Cox Springfield Health Hospice Unit.
He was born August 9, 1945, in Wheaton, Mo., the son of Lee Roy and Estoline Louise (Harader) McCracken, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was one brother, Richard and two sisters, Mary and Tresa.
Survivors include his two children, daughter, Tammy Landoll and her husband James of Pierce City, Mo. and son, Tim McCracken and his wife Heidi of Rocky Comfort, Mo.; two brothers, Joe McCracken and his wife Eva of Coos Bay, Ore., and Jack McCracken and his wife Carissa of Shell Knob, Mo.; four sisters, Sue Wilkens of Wheaton, Mo., Judy Osborne and her husband Tom of Lee’s Summit, Mo., Ginger Poe and her husband Randy of Rocky Comfort, Mo. and Jackie Carpenter and her husband Jack of Washburn, Mo.; five grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.
He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1963. After graduating, he was employed by Kraft Foods Inc. in Wheaton, Mo. He hauled both canned and bulk milk for several years. Later, he owned and operated Save-A-Lot Store in Monett, Mo. He later moved to Springfield, Mo., where he was self-employed for the last several years.
Graveside were held at Monday, October 14, 2024 at Muncie Chapel Cemetery in Wheaton, Mo., under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert conducted the services.
