By my estimation, there’s only one time a year parents allow their kids to just run all willy-nilly
through the street — and you’re looking at it! The Wheaton parade is a big draw for kiddos, especially
because of the International Attractions guy in the Slingshot flinging bouncy balls and stuffed
animals up and down Main Street. The Troutmans’ oldest always makes it a challenge to see how
many she can snag as they pop by. No matter how many she catches, it’s never enough! Wheaton is
the final parade of the season in Barry County, and residents should pat themselves on the back for
continuing the tradition every year. My friends in larger cities lament how no one throws candy (let
alone bouncy balls and stuffed animals) in their parade. Kudos to all for giving our kiddos a magical
season of holiday fun. Merry Christmas to all!
