Man charged after chase into McDonald County

An Aurora man is facing a felony charge after allegedly fleeing authorities for nearly 30 minutes into McDonald County.

Cody Lowe, born 1990, of Aurora, is charged with felony resisting arrest.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Officer Codie Evatt, with the Cassville police Department, on Dec. 9, Evatt observed a vehicle traveling 74 miles per hour through a 55-mile-perhour zone in the city limits of Cassville.

He attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle continued to travel at high rates of speed, failing to yield to police and passing oncoming traffic.

Evatt said Lowe fled police for 29 minutes into McDonald County, where its deputies deployed a tire deflation device with success.

The vehicle then came to a stop, and a male allegedly exited and fled on foot.

Evatt said the male, identified as Lowe, was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

According to Evatt’s report, Lowe has has failed to appear at previous court hearings in South Dakota in 2016, and he has prior felony convictions in Barry County in 2021 for receiving stolen property, possession an illegal weapon, burglary, theft and resisting arrest. Lowe is currently on probation or parole, and Evatt did not indicate he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

A warrant for Lowe’s arrest was issued Jan. 2, with a bond set at $10,000, cash only.
