Steven LaVerne Vore, 70, of LaVista, Nebraska, formerly of Pierce City, Missouri, died at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy in Omaha, Nebraska, following a short illness.
He was born on November 11, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Marvin L. and Laura A. (Morey) Vore. They both preceded him in death.
Steven graduated from Pierce City High School in 1972. At that time, he was working at Jumping Jack Shoes in Monett, MO. He attended basic training for the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. In March 1974, he began his first duty at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. His first assignment was at Keesler Air Force Base in the engineering and installation group. He went on to make a lifetime career in the military devoting 20 years to the air force. He also had two tours in Korea. At the time of his death, he was working for Cigna Insurance.
He enjoyed playing golf and bowling; horseback riding with the White Horse Mounted Patrol for Shriners, having a drink at Houston’s in Omaha, getting coffee at Starbuck’s with his wife, watching the weather and in his younger days, he loved playing softball and roller skating.
Steve married Sheila (Beaune) Vore on Dec. 18, 2021, and she survives.
He is survived by two daughters, Lacey Jo Bird (Adam Lawson), of Le mars, Iowa; Allisha (Matthew) Morris, of Pryor, Oklahoma; and one son, Christopher (Christel) Vore, of Lowell, Arkansas, one stepson, Joseph Benis, Jr.; 15 grandchildren, Chloe Bird, Conor Jackson; Victorya (Jordan) Shaw, Malak Reeves, Alexander Reeves, Ryan Reeves, Emma Morris, Leo Morris, and Eve Riley Morris; Sharon (Parker) Wallace, Natalie Vore, Arianna Vore, Julian Kristek, Jackson Vore and Jordan Benis; and five great-grandchildren, Easton and Barrett Pratt, Bentley and Kenley Shaw, and Wyatt Helms.
He is also survived by five brothers: Timothy (Celia) Vore, of Tulsa, Okla., Daniel (Peggy) Vore, of Monett, Jerald (Cheryl) Vore, of Monett, Robert (Carol) Vore, of Joplin and Phillip (Debra) Vore, of Liberal; two sisters: Janice (Bill) Alexander and Faith (Steve) Leach, both of Ash Grove; a sister-in-law, Amy Vore, of Douglass, Kan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and numerous friends from all over the country.
Besides his parents, Steve was also preceded in death by one brother, Michael Vore and a niece, Nichole Vore.
Steve was cremated by his request. Services/ memorial plans are incomplete.
