Wildcats wrestle Bolivar, Logan-Rogersville
The Cassville boys wrestling team competed in a triad with Bolivar and Logan-Rogersville on Thursday, the final regular-season action before the Class 2, District 3 Tournament Feb. 21-22. The Wildcats defeated Bolivar, 46-34, though the Wildcats had three more athletes with no opponents, accounting for 18 points of their total. Cassville produced three falls to Bolivar’s four, and each team recorded a major decision. The Wildcats then had a similar performance against Logan-Rogersville, getting three falls to Log-Rog’s five and earning a technical fall while Logan-Rogersville won a decision. Cassville also benefitted from two extra forfeits, accounting for 12 points in a 41-39 result. Bolivar is a Class 2 school, while Cassville and Logan-Rogersville are in Class 2.

Lady Wildcats on 5-game run
The Cassville girls basketball team (16-5) continued its winning ways in the last week. The Lady Wildcats defeated Monett, 55-42, at home on Feb. 3, then played on the road Monday at East Newton, battling to a 36-32 victory, their fifth consecutive. Cassville has four regular-season contests remaining, hosting Mt. Vernon Feb. 13 and McDonald County Feb. 17 before going on the road to Nevada Feb. 21 and hosting Neosho in the season finale on Feb. 25. The Class 4, District 12 Tournament runs March 3-8 in Monett.
Tigers hang tough in tourney
The Exeter boys basketball team (1-17) faced stout competition in the 42nd Annual Mercy/Warrior Classic last week, dropping all three contests. The Tigers fell in the opener to Greenwood, 68-31, then dropped consolation bracket contests to Thomas Jefferson, 72-28, and Sarcoxie, 64-28. Exeter is now in the middle of a four-game road swing, which began with with a 72-39 loss at Hurley on Monday. The Tigers face Thomas Jefferson, Verona and Wheaton this week and next before finishing the season with a pair of home games Feb. 20 and 21 against Northeast Vernon County and Pierce City. The Class 2, District 11 Tournament runs Feb. 24-28 in Purdy.
Trojans surprise Galena
The Southwest boys basketball team (7-14) earned a close win over a strong opponent last week. After falling on the road to Purdy, 53-49, on Feb. 4, the Trojans rebounded with an 87-82 victory over Galena, serving the Bears their fourth loss of the season after they defeated Cassville the night before. Southwest hosted Blue Eye on Monday and still has three games on its schedule: Feb. 17 at McAuley Catholic, Feb. 18 at home against Cassville and Feb. 20 at Wheaton. The Class 3, District 12 Tournament is set for Feb. 24 to March 1 in Diamond.
Lady Bulldogs wrap season next week
The Wheaton girls basketball team (3-14) has three games left before postseason action begins. Last week, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Southwest on Feb. 4, suffering a 50-27 loss. Wheaton traveled to Hurley on Thursday and hosted Verona on Tuesday. The season’s final two contests are on the road at Miller on Feb. 14 and at home against Exeter on Feb. 18.
