Yoga classes in Wheaton
Louisa’s Chair Yoga and Beginning Yoga and Gentle Stretching classes to improve flexibility will begin Every Thursday starting this week, March 6, at the Wheaton Community Center, located at 117 Allman Ave. in Wheaton. Chair Yoga is at 2 p.m., and the Beginning Yoga and Gentle Stretching is at 3:30 p.m. There is no charge for the classes, but donations are appreciated. Classes aim to improve flexibility, lessen chronic pain, improve balance, reduce stress or provide relaxation. Portion of Route Y closed Thursday
Barry County Route Y, between Farm Road 2150 and Farm Road 2140, north of Cassville, iwll be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday while MoDOT crews replacing damaged pipe underneath the road, All lanes of Route Y will be closed where crews are working, and drivers will have access to driveways and entrances on either end of the work zone but will not be able to travel through the work zone. There are no signed detours, drivers urged to find alternate routes, and signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone. People may check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts. Weather and/or scheduling conflicts could alter the work schedule.
Waste Management District to meet
The Southwest Missouri Waste Management District N will hold its Executive Board Meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday at the Monett Barry/Lawrence Public Library in Monett. This meeting is open to the public. A teleconference number will also be available for this meeting, and people may contact the district office at 417236-9012 or 417-342-6306 prior to the day of the meeting for the call-in number and passcode.
Corsicana Road District meeting
The Corsicana Special Road District will meet in regular session on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the home of Garry and Pam Bartkoski, located at 5086 Farm Road 2057 in Monett. The public is welcome to attend.
Purdy Road District to meet
The Purdy Special Road District will meet Monday at 4 p.m. at the District Road Barn, located at 200 S. 9th St. in Purdy.
Barry County Democratic Central Committee meeting
The Barry County Democratic Central Committee will meet on March 11 at 6 p.m. at The Cassville Public Library located at 301 West 17th Street.
Kindergarten, Kinder Academy screenings in April
Kindergarten and Kinder Academy screening will be held on April 8 and April 10 in the FEMA building from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parents of children who will be 5 years old by July 31 are requested to bring the following to enroll their child for the 20252026 school year: an official state birth certificate, immunization (shot) record, proof of residency (utility bill with name and address on it, real estate contract, rental agreement, etc.), and a parent/guardian photo ID. Preschool screenings in April
Preschool screening for 3- and 4-year-old children in the Cassville school district is scheduled for April 7 and April 9. Parents of 3- and 4-year-old children may call the primary office at 417-847-2445 to schedule an appointment. Children must be at least 3 years old before the date of screening. The screening will take place at the FEMA 1/Event Center located by the football field. The BRIGANCE Early Childhood Screens III test will be used. This assessment tool screens children in the following areas: Physical Development, Language Development, Academic Skills/Cognitive Development, and Self-help and Social-Emotional Skills. The screening will take at least half an hour to complete. Children who are currently enrolled in the Cassville Preschool or who will be eligible to attend kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year do not need to participate in this screening. Screening results will be used to determine eligibility for the district’s preschool programs.
Voter registration ends March 12
The last day to register to vote is March 12 for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the April 8 General Municipal Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office or the Monett Chamber of Commerce. Anyone who has moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the county clerk’s office. Photo ID is required to vote in the April General Municipal Election. Absentee voting runs through April 7 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The last day to request an absentee ballot is March 26. Two-week in-person, no excuse absentee voting begins March 25. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Those who live in the Monett area can go to the Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. They will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov. Seligman Bingo Night on first Tuesday of month
A Bingo Night will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Seligman Chamber Event Center, located on Highway 37 north of the city. If at least 50 people attend, two train tickets will be raffled. In the case of bad weather, bingo will be postponed. The building is handicap accessible, and all ages are invited. Bingo cards are $1 per play, and there is no limit on plays. A variety of prizes, excluding cash, will be awarded. Sodas and water are available for $1 each. Cassville Senior Center hosting monthly dances
The Cassville Senior Center hosts a dance and potluck dinner with live music on the first Friday of every month. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the live music and dance is from 7-10 p.m. Admission is $10 and the Senior Center is located at 1111 Fair St. in Cassville. All ages are welcome. There will be door prizes, refreshments, a 50-50 raffle and a potluck dinner at 8 p.m., and attendees are welcome to bring a dish. All proceeds go to the Senior Center.
