Do you love dogs and are looking for a great way to spend a day? Are you interested in going outside for a nice hike or a walk around town?
Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary is looking for you!
Haven of the Ozarks Animal Sanctuary has a new program for those looking for a bit more doggy love in their life – Doggy Day Out! With this program, members of the public can take a shelter dog out into the community for a day outside the shelter.
A doggy day out can be a hike on a local trail, a walk around town, an afternoon of fetch in the backyard or even an overnight “pawjama” party. It’s a great way for people to enjoy some dog time while helping a homeless pet.
The program aims to bring fun to the public, but it also gives adoptable dogs waiting for homes a much-needed break from the shelter to relax and get some extra attention. Information and photos gathered from the participants help the shelter make better matches with potential adopters.
“This program is perfect for folks who love dogs but maybe can’t or aren’t ready to commit to having one right now,’ said Jana Fornelli, executive director of the Haven. ‘It’s also great for people who are potentially interested in adopting a dog but want to see how they behave outside the shelter. It helps us know more about the dogs, so we can make better adoption matches.’
Participation is open to anyone over the age of 18. Applicants must complete the Doggy Day Out Volunteer application at www.havenoftheozarks. org/get-involved. The application must be submitted at least 24 hours in advance.
