“Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.” Psalms 37:3-5
I sure do love verse 4 God is going to give me the desires of my heart yes!
We tell God what it is we want Him to give us, Lord this is the desire of my heart, and nothing. We become disappointed and let down why did God put this verse in the Bible if he’s not gonna give me what I ask for.
Too often, we pick words out of the Bible words or verses that will benefit us that we can use to get what we want and then when it doesn’t happen, we get disappointed in God in church and just kind of walk away. Let’s stop for a moment and see what these verses are really saying, because I believe God will give you the desires of your heart when you follow His plan.
First: “Trust.” The first thing God is telling us to do is trust in Him; when we trust someone, we have to wait and sometimes walk through some things we didn’t expect to.
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;” Psalm 40:1-4 “I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. He has put a new song in my mouth Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the Lord. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”
Second: “Dwell.” The next thing God tells us is to dwell in Him. Where do you live?
Are you in your Bible active in the work of God at Church, at work, in town; do you wake up and go to bed with Jesus on your mind in your prayers?
Could it be God is more like a vacation home you go to once and while? If we want God to give us the Desires of our hearts we must live in Him.
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Psalm 90:1-2 “Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.”
Third: “Delight.” Delight yourself in the Lord. How do you do that and what is it?
The definition of Delight: “a high degree of gratification or pleasure, extreme satisfaction.”
This sounds difficult but it’s not if we will just look at what God has done for us and is doing for us it will come naturally.
I would encourage you to make a list of all the things the Bible tells us God has already done for us, but it starts right here.
1 John 4:9,10 “In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
When we Delight ourselves in the Lord, Dwell in the Lord and trust in the Lord, he will give us the desires of our heart guys God is good, His promises are forever.
As Jesus said, in the gospel, ”He has come to give us life a life more abundant.” I want to encourage you to read the Bible to pray and seek God to give Him thanks tell God your needs and your wants.
I hope this shows you that the word of God is true and that God will not let you down.
God is not a magic genie at our beck and call. We cannot pick and choose verses out of the Bible we like and stand on without putting it in context, and lining it up the way God wrote it out. Yes, God will give you the desires of your heart.
The desires of your heart will show just how much you Trust God, just how much you Dwell in God, and just how much you Delight yourself in God. Take a look at your Heart and where it is today.
