On Sunday morning, Roaring River’s CFS was at 30, so still low and clear.
We caught ‘em on caddis, crackle backs, para Adams and blue wing olives all week.
We’re also starting to catch more fish on beetles and ants, I caught a bunch last week on small black streamers, Chamois worms and on small egg patterns. Sow bugs, pheasant tails and burlaps worked well all week.
It’s best to use 9’ 7X leaders when fishing dry flies. I use 9’ 6X leaders when fishing nymphs.
Water is low and clear, so use a good quality fishing line. Gamma or Maxima are both great. Try to avoid fluorescent blue fluorescent, clear, yellow, red or braided lines when the water is this clear.
Pink, white and cheese-colored plastics did very well this week. The 1-inch yellow gulp grub worked well all week.
Black/yellow, olive, tan, white and olive/tan marabou jigs did very well this week.
Black rooster tails and skunk rooster tails seem to be working every day this last week. There were a couple of days when it was overcast that pink and yellow rooster tails did very well.
As of Sunday morning, we have not received much rain. I think we have a dry spell for a bit, so the water should remain great for the next week or two anyhow. Good luck on the river!
