Monett’s Miles Young slides into second base during the Cubs’ home opener against Southwest on March 21. Along with helping his team to a 15-0 victory, Young avoided any grass stains on his jersey, as Monett has installed new turf on the high school ball field. The Cubs ended March with a 4-1 record and hosted their annual tournament last week. The Cubs next host East Newton on April 10 at 4:30 p.m. MSL Photography/Special to the Monett Monthly
