Jig On the Water, April 27

Roaring River is running at 152 CFS, much better now, but is still very murky.
Powerbait is still catching lots of trout. We are using 1/4-ounce egg sinkers to keep the bait on the bottom. Yellow, pink, orange and fluorescent yellow have all been good colors. Spinners and spoons have been catching trout well, Heavy marabou jigs are still doing well. Black and yellow, olive, and tan have all been effective.
Four-pound line is still working, and you probably won’t need to start using 2-pound again for a few weeks. If you’re fly fishing, mop flies, Glo balls, chamois worms, heavier thread jigs and nymphs have been working, as have black, olive and brown woolly buggers and streamers.
There’s much dry fly fishing yet, probably for another week or so. There might be more rain this week, so if the river comes up I’ll update this report on Facebook. Good luck on the river this week.
