An Exeter man died on Monday in a wreck at 6:40 p.m. on Highway 76, one mile west of Exeter.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, James Johnson, 37, of Exeter, was driving a 2006 Mini Cooper westbound when his vehicle slid on the wet roadway and struck a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, being driven by Johnathan Lewis, 35, of Stella.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene by Barry County Coroner Gary Swearingen at 6:51 p.m. Lewis suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Both were wearing safety devices, and both vehicles were totaled.
This is the 32nd fatality of the year for Troop D of the Patrol, which covers 18 counties in southwest Missouri, including Barry.
