Shell Knob School closed its track and field season with some new records set, one of which was broken at the last meet of the season.
Students practice out on the field to prepare for the track and field season. “Many times, the first track meet is where our students compete on a real track and field,” said Rhonda Wheeler, third-grade teacher and social media coordinator. “There are many events our students participate in. Students race and compete as individuals and as teams for the relay races.”
This year, there were several strong runners, jumpers and throwers on the team.
Eighth grade consisted of Jessie Ray, Jordan Campbell, Dillon Hocutt, William Buchanan, Emma Pryor, Randa Johnson, Amberlee Shipman, Raigan Crumb, and Caitlyn Bonass. Seventh grade consisted of Joshua Shipman and Rilee Crumb.
The record for the 100-meter hurdles, which is a new event, was set by Johnson at 21.63 seconds. This event was previously the 75-meter hurdles.
The record for the 100-meter hurdles, which is a new event, was set by Campbell at 21.44 seconds, which used to be the 110-meter hurdles.
Shipman beat the 400-meter record, which was set in 2000. Her time was 1:20.84, and the old record was 1:24.00.
