Martha Laura Riehn, age 79, of Cassville, Missouri, passed at her home on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Daughter of Chester and Geraldine (Smith) Harmon, Laura was born on July 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Upon graduating from Central High School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Laura went on to receive accreditation as a registered nurse, embarking upon a career where she would care for many and make several lasting friendships. On June 25, 1960, she married the love of her life, James “Jim” Dayton Riehn, in Cape Girardeau; he preceded her in death.
Laura loved quilting, cooking and curling up with a good book. She enjoyed traveling, especially when the destination had a beach. Laura’s dogs were always an important part of her life, but her grandchildren were her entire world. Laura was a precious woman who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include: one son, James “Mike” Riehn and his wife Shelly, of Cassville; two daughters, Susie Broddle and her husband Daryl, of Bentonville, Arkansas, and Elizabeth Hetland and her husband Derek, of Des Moines, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Riehn and Laney Riehn, both of Kansas City, Missouri, Katy Southerland, of Youngsville, North Carolina, Zakary Broddle, of Raleigh, North Carolina, Madison Ferguson, Macy Ferguson, and Myla Hetland, all of Des Moines, Iowa; and one great-grandson, Cooper.
In addition to her parents and husband, Laura was preceded in death by one brother, Dan Harmon.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with Pastor Donny Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
The family will receive friends from 11: 00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
