Shell Knob gets 1,024 votes in contest

Shell Knob has had a lot going on lately with the Poker Run and annual Independence Fest, but that was not all.

Kellie Davis, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce director, said she has been in contact with a company who hopes to bring better internet to the area.

“We are in the very begging stages of this discussion,” she said. “I met them at the 417 Magazine mixer and invited the representative to come to our board meeting.

“If any business wants to contact them, I have been working with Kelly Lace. He can work with you individually for better internet access.”

The internet company is Network Solutions.

“When we first spoke, he said they had just installed internet for an entire Marina in Florida,” Davis said. “For some reason it is very difficult to have reliable internet access around large bodies of water.”

Eventually, Davis hopes to have reliable internet access to everyone, but currently it will be individually based.

In addition, Shell Knob nominated itself for the Missouri Feature Five of 2023.

“We got a lot of votes — we did good,” Davis said. “We will keep trying to be one of the small towns featured in the future. It really is an opportunity to gain some small town notoriety, which would potentially bring in more business.”

The vote closed on Friday, and Shell Knob earned 1,024 votes, which is a total of 2.8 percent of the 38,638 total votes.

Shell Knob’s description for nominations read as follows:

Shell Knob (Barry County) Population: 1,100

Shell Knob describes themselves as “the most welcoming town in America” and the “hidden gem of Table Rock Lake.” This peaceful, picturesque town is full of natural beauty and offers a relaxing escape from the busier side of the lake. Its friendly residents and dedicated civic leaders know their community is special, and would love others to see what they see.
