The Barry County Sheriff’s Office recovered four stolen vehicles on July 28, one from Purdy and three from Arkansas, and all within a window of three hours.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Deputy Randy Kalbaugh recovered a 2013 Ford F-150 and homemade trailer reported stolen in Arkansas. Danny Boyd, Barry County sheriff, said Kalbaugh initiated that recovery at a home on Farm Road 1265 in the Golden area.
At approximately 3 p.m., Boyd and Maj. Angela Cole acted on a tip and conducted an investigation at a home on Farm Road 2182 near Exeter.
“An informant gave us information that a 2007 Ford Focus stolen from Purdy was at that location,” Boyd said. “So, we went to the address, and that vehicle was on the property. It was stripped of everything, even the VIN number.”
Boyd said deputies were given permission to search the property, and in the garage of the home, they located a 2018 Enduro KTM motorcycle stolen from Arkansas. Deputies were able to determine it was stolen by checking the VIN number.
While investigating in Exeter, Boyd said another tip led to the recovery of a 2018 Dodge dully pickup near the end of Farm Road 1150, south of Cassville.
“It was almost hard to keep things straight having three locations and four vehicles,” Boyd said. “We have not made any arrests yet. When we recovered the F-150 and the Dodge, no one was around. The items found in Exeter will likely lead to charges, but the investigation is continuing.”
Boyd said vehicle thefts have been on the rise, especially near the Arkansas border.
“We had a 10-day period there where we averaged one vehicle theft per day,” he said. “Property crimes have gone up dramatically. I think it’s people who are not working or trying to get quick money. We had one where a person left their vehicle on and went into the Dollar General in Eagle Rock to make a quick purchase, and when they came out, their vehicle was gone. They were only in the store maybe 5 minutes. Another vehicle stolen in that period had a spare set of keys under the seat.”
Boyd said with such crimes becoming more prevalent, awareness is crucial.
“You know your neighborhoods and who is suppose to be around and who isn’t,” he said. “If you see something suspicious, call us and we will come check it out. It will take the help of the community to resolve this.”
