Oct. 4, 1972 County seat headquarters for the Democrat and Republican parties opened in Cassville the first week of October, with both parties saying the offices would remain open through the Nov. 7 general election and serve as an assembly point for candidates to meet voters. The Republican headquarters were located on Main Street in the Edmondson building and the Democrat headquarters in the Hall Theater building on the west side of the public square.

Sept. 29, 1982 With 10 constitutional amendments and three propositions, in addition to the usual general election scheduled for Nov. 2, County Clerk Howard Bounous announced in September that an additional 22 election judges were required to handle ballet counting. Under normal circumstances, 212 people were required in the county’s 26 townships.

Cassville anticipated “black gold” revenue for an anticipated banner black walnut harvest. Reports called the autumn 1972 harvest “an extra good crop” as two locations for Hammons Products of Stockton opened. It was also announced that one of the few independent hullers and crackers in the four-state area, Packwood Hullers of Exeter, was also purchasing walnuts.

Sept. 23, 1992 A group of horseback riders, mostly from southern Barry County communities, joined more than 500 riders that participated in what was planned to be a two-day trail ride in September with proceeds going to the Kidney Foundation. Though activities were curtailed when rains soaked the camp and train routes, riders still enjoyed the company of others at the Star City campsite provided by Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Craig. This was the second year in a row that thunderstorms rained out the event, sending some rigs home early, while others braved the weather and enjoyed the weekend.
