A Washburn man is facing multiple felonies after allegedly attempting to rob an individual at knife-point outside a Monett convenience store. Landon Hendrix, 23, of Washburn, is charged with first-degree attempted robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Det. Scott Landreth, with the Monett Police Department, officers were dispatched to Rapid Roberts on Dec. 2 at about 8:13 p.m. in reference to an attempted robbery.
The victim reported he was standing outside the store waiting on his son to come out when a white male approached him, claiming he had lost his money inside the store and accusing the victim of having it.
The victim said he told the man he did not have the money, and the man then allegedly grabbed the victim by the shoulder and pushed him against the wall, displaying a knife in one hand and demanding the victim’s money.
At that time, the victim’s son came out of the store and threw a bottle at the alleged robber, forcing him to retreat to the parking lot. The man then allegedly approached the son still holding the knife, and the son threw another bottle, forcing the man to leave in pickup.
On Dec. 8, Landreth obtained security video from Rapid Roberts that he said seemed to support the victim’s account. Still photos from the videos were posted on social media, with multiple tips identifying Hendrix as the alleged assailant.
Landreth said among one of the tips was one from the Wyandotte Nation Tribal Police, who are seeking charges on Hendrix for an unrelated incident.
A warrant for Hendrix’s arrest was issued around Dec. 14, and he was arrested in Seneca following a traffic stop at 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 19. He is also facing a felony possession of a controlled substance change in that incident, as Seneca police allegedly found a bag of methamphetamine in the vehicle, and Hendrix allegedly claimed the substance as his.
Hendrix is being held in the Barry County jail on a cash-only bond of $15,000. He has been arraigned, and a bond modification was denied.
A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
