Wildcats go 2-1 on week, wrap regular season Friday
The Cassville boys basketball team (12-10) picked up a pair of wins in three tries last week. On Tuesday, the Wildcats defeated Lamar on the road, 53-49, then they fell to McDonald County at home Wednesday, 52-49. Cassville wrapped up the week with a Barry County BasketBrawl win, 34-31, over Monett on the road. Cassville played Aurora Tuesday and will host East Newton and Hollister Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Wildcats finish the regular season on the road at Glendale on Feb. 23 before the Class 4, District 12 Tournament begins on Feb. 27.
Lady Wildcats fall to Monett, Mac
The Cassville girls basketball team (12-11) fell in a pair of contests last week. The Lady Wildcats were downed by Monett, 56-43. Madison Halterman led scoring with 14, Marianne McCrackin and Pazlee Burbridge added 10 each, Ashlynn Bryan contributed 6, Hailey Gautney scored 2 and Elly Ramaeker added 1. The Lady Wildcats also fell to McDonald County at home on Thursday, 50-47. Scoring was not available. Cassville played at Aurora on Monday and will travel to Hollister on Thursday and faces Carthage at home on Feb. 23. The Class 4, District 12 Tournament starts on Feb. 28.
Tigers find win in Hurley
The Exeter boys basketball team (1-19) earned its first win of the season last week, besting Hurley on the road, 58-48, on Feb. 6. The Tigers played twice more last week, falling to Thomas Jefferson, 59-41, and Verona, 69-50. Exeter travels to School of the Ozarks today (Wednesday) and host Northeast Vernon County on Thursday and Pierce City on Friday. The No. 7-seeded Tigers open the Class 1, District 4 Tournament on Monday against No. 2 Niangua at 6 p.m.
Trojans streak ends at 3
A three-game win streak for the Southwest boys basketball team (16-7) ended on Friday with a loss to Sparta, 78-61. The Trojans started the week with a win over Blue Eye on the road, 51-47, then Purdy at home, 71-59. against Blue eye, Brendyn Paulsen led with 17 points, Zach Corwin scored 14, Lucas Paulsen had 8, Charlie Pippin 4, Brandon Brooks and Kasen Holder 3, and Coy Shrum 2. Against Purdy, Brendyn Paulsen again led with 22, Lucas Paulsen score 14, Brooks 11, Holder 8, Corwin 8, Caleb Ayer 3, and Shrum and Pippin 2. Against Sparta, Lucas Paulsen put up 24, Holder 13, Corwin 9, Brendyn Paulsen 7, Brooks 6 and Shrum 2. Southwest hosts Crane and Billings this week, with Class 3, District 12 Tournament action beginning Monday, when the No. 3 Trojans take on No. 6 and tourney host Diamond at 8 p.m.
Lady Trojans take No. 6 seed
The Southwest girls basketball team (8-13) has been slotted as the No. 6 seed in the Class 3, District 12 tournament, playing its first game on Tuesday against No. 3 Clever at 8 p.m. in Diamond. The Lady Trojans host Galena today (Wednesday) and play at Purdy on Thursday and at Wheaton on Friday.
Lady Tigers get district matchup
The Exeter girls basketball team (0-22) has two more games before district tournament action next week. The Lady Tigers face School of the Ozarks on the road today (Wednesday), and they will host Northeast Vernon County on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The first game may serve as a test for Exeter, as the No. 6 Lady Tigers will meet the No. 3 Lady Patriots on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Wheaton hoops teams ready for districts
The Wheaton boys and girls basketball teams have received their district seedings for next week’s tournament. The Bulldogs (7-18) played their final regular-season game at home Tuesday against Exeter. In the Class 2, District 12 Tournament, they have the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed Verona on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Bulldogs (4-19) have the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Purdy in the tourney on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at College Heights in Joplin.
Eagles draw Miller in districts, Lady Eagles face Wheaton
The Purdy boys basketball team (15-10) has earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 2, District 12 Tournament and will face No. 6 Miller at 8 p.m. on Monday in Verona. The Lady Eagles (4-20) earned the No. 5 seed and will match up with No. 4 Wheaton at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at College Heights in Joplin.
