Jig On the Water, March 29

Roaring River’s waters are high and muddy, running at 372 CFS on Sunday morning.

The river will drop some every day, so we should start seeing some decent water in a week or so. If you have a sinking fly line, get it out and throw some streamers or big colorful mop/mega worms.

Black buggers will probably be good. You might find a fish or two feeding on top, up near the Hatchery.

Powerbait will work great in these water conditions; yellow, pink, and brown have been good colors. We were using 3/4-ounce sinkers on Saturday, but it looks like we can drop back to 1/2-ounce for a few days, then 1/4-ounce by the end of the week. Worms and eggs will be great for the next few weeks.

Spinners will work early in the morning. Extra weight will probably be needed to keep them down. If you want to use a Marabou jig, you will probably need to use 1/16- and 1/8-ounce jigs until the water drops out to about 200 CFS.

When the water is high and murky, spoons, like a little Cleo or a cast master, work pretty good. The fish can see them and they sink quickly.

Good luck on the river this week.
