Area softball teams have their seeds determined for upcoming district tournaments, which begin on Friday.
Three local schools, Purdy, Exeter and Wheaton, will all play on Friday in the Class 1, District 5 tournament.
Purdy (21-8) is hosting the tournament and received the No. 1 seed and will kick off the tournament at 2 p.m. against No. 8 Hurley (1-13), a team the Lady Eagles defeated 18-0 on April 10. Purdy is also tied with Concordia for No. 1 in Class 1, according to the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Exeter (12-5) earned the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 Billings (4-11) at 5 p.m., the first match-up between the two this season. Wheaton (1-10) secured the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Miller (115), ranked No. 7 in Class 1, at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Cardinals defeated the Lady Bulldogs on April 25 by a score of 15-0.
The remainder of the field includes No. 4 Crane (7-12) and No. 5 Verona (6-10), set to play at 6:30 p.m.
In the semifinals on Monday, the winner of Purdy-Hurley will face the winner of Verona-Crane at 4:30 p.m., and the Miller-Wheaton winner will play the Exeter-Billings winner at 6:30 p.m.
The championship game is on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
In Class 2, District 6, Southwest (7-11) is the No. 8 seed in a bracket with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the state. The Lady Trojans open tournament play at 11 a.m. on Saturday against the host Mt. Vernon (30-1), ranked No. 1 in the district and in the state. It is the first meeting between the teams this season.
At 12:45 p.m., No. 4 College Heights (15-5) faces No. 5 Pierce City (12-9). At 2:30 p.m., No. 3 Sarcoxie (138) plays No. 6 East Newton (8-11), and at 4:15 p.m., No. 2 Diamond (22-8), also ranked No. 2 in Class 2, takes on No. 7 Lamar (12-15).
Semifinals will be on Monday at 5 and 6:45 p.m., and the championship game is on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
