Merlyn Johnson: Teachers do more than just teach

This week (May 1-5) is Teacher Appreciation Week. On behalf of the Board of Education and administration at Cassville R-IV School District, I would like to express my deep gratitude to our educators for the work they do each day to ensure the success of all our students.

Expectations for public school teachers across our nation continue to become more and more complex and demanding. Despite the many challenges over the past few years, our teachers never wavered to provide the high-quality instruction and support our students need to graduate ready for college and career.

Cassville R-IV teachers deliver exceptional teaching and learning designed to keep our students engaged and on track. We all know teachers do so much more. Teachers serve as mentors and a vital part of the support system to meet the needs of the whole child.

They collaborate with parents and caregivers to keep families informed and contribute to a school climate that makes our students feel safe and valued. Teachers bring hope, encouragement, and the ability to dream beyond the four walls of the classroom, transforming the lives of students and the communities in which they live.

A school district is only as strong as the good people who dedicate their careers to help mold our students into future productive citizens. The accomplishments of our teachers are celebrated in classrooms all across our district.

And, it is not limited to just the classroom. Multiple Cassville educators provide opportunities after hours through tutoring, club sponsorship, coaching, and supervision of activities all year long. They do it with passion and enjoyment because they genuinely care about the welfare of their students as if they were their own children.

Every single school day, Cassville’s teachers are dedicated to the success of each and every child. They provide hope to the most needy young children in our community. They provide stability in attitude and attention to every detail of a child’s life and they understand the profound influence they have on the lives of kids. I truly believe that our Cassville educators are among the best in the state of Missouri.

It is true that teaching is a calling, not a profession, and I am so honored that our teachers have chosen Cassville R-IV School District as a place to make a difference in the lives of our children.

I hope you will join us during Teacher Appreciation Week to celebrate the applause-worthy work our teachers perform each day in the classroom and beyond!

Together, we can partner to successfully ensure the academic, emotional and social success of our students.
