Local woman celebrates 100 years
Edwina Martin, her friends and family call her Tooley, will celebrate her 100th birthday in June. Her family will be with her to celebrate on Saturday June 24. Cassville Public Works changes working hours
This week, Cassville’s Public Works and Wastewater staff has switched to summer operating hours (shifts start and end an hour earlier). The change in hours was in anticipation of summer weather and occurs each year between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Earlier start times increase productivity and reduce the potential for heat injuries during the hottest part of the year. Residents should not see any changes in level of service. Calls for service for street, water, wastewater or park issues can be directed to City Hall at 417-847-4441, during normal business hours (Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.). On weekends, holidays and after hours, residents can contact on-call personnel at 417-342-2814 or call Barry County e-911 at its non-emergency number, 417-846-4911.
New Life Tabernacle hosting revival
The New Life Tabernacle Church, located at 30755 Hwy. 37 in Seligman will host a Holy Ghost Revival Friday through Sunday with pastor Bob Rowe. On Friday, the evening service is at 7 p.m. Saturday will see an outdoor Gospel singing, featuring local group (trio Jerry, Dale and Paul) and other, and free concessions from noon to 2 p.m. The Saturday evening service will be at 7 p.m., and the Sunday service is at 11 a.m. Evangelist Bro. Purdy Community Picnic and Fireworks show scheduled
The Purdy Community Picnic and Fireworks Show will be held July 3 at the Gathering Place in Purdy, located at 100 Old Business 37 and Highway C, beginning at 6 p.m. There will be a picnic meal, live musical entertainment and a fireworks show at dark. Life Change to celebrate two-year anniversary
Life Change will celebrate its two-year anniversary on Saturday from 3-6:30 p.m. at the Cassville United Methodist Church parking lot. There will be a no-entry-fee classic car and motorcycle show, with 1st place, 2nd place and people’s choice awards. People can register their cars or motorcycles upon arrival. There will be various children’s activities, as well as a concert by “The Texans” at 5 p.m. Food and drinks will be available. “Bring your car or bike out to show off, or just come out and enjoy the celebration with us,” said Derek Cornelius, with Life Change. The event will be at the parking lot at 601 Gravel St. in Cassville. Life Change is a place where people who struggle in any area of life come together in community to heal, worship, learn, grow in Christ and grow in fellowship with one another.
Shell Knob nominated for Small Town Showcase
Shell Knob has been nominated in the 2024 Small Town Showcase, where five communities will be featured after voting on the 36 total towns nominated. Voting will close on July 15, and the five communities with the most votes will be featured in the 2024 Small Town Showcase. Washburn city-wide yard sale scheduled
The city of Washburn has scheduled its city-wide yard for Friday and Saturday. Residents can get a yard sale permit at city hall and be put on a list of yard sales available at city hall. The city-wide clean-up will be on June 14.
Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market open
The Old Church Gallery Farmers’ Market runs every Thursday from 8-11 a.m. The Market offers fresh produce, eggs, jellies, relishes, baked goods, cut flowers, handmade crafts and more. Softball game benefitting Wheaton boy
A benefit softball game will be held at the Wheaton ballfields on June 24 at noon. Funds raised will benefit Garrett Roller, 12, of Wheaton, who broke both bones in his leg in a UTV accident in October. Since having his cast off in November, Roller has experienced many complications, resulting in four major surgeries on his leg. He is currently receiving care at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City to treat a bone infection, correct the deformity and hopefully allow the bone to fuse together. Roller is an outdoor-lover, enjoying fishing, gardening and anything to do with farm animals. The cost to enter a team is $250, and there is a $10 cost per entry in the home run derby. The registration deadline is June 19, and people may register by calling the city of Wheaton at 417-652-3314. There will be plated of barbecue chicken and sides for $5 each. OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.
Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free.
