Following a new agreement with the city of Cassville for trash services to be coordinated out of Bella Vista, Ark., instead of Springfield, Republic Services has discontinued services to many local residents outside Cassville city limits.
An emailed statement from the company inquiring about the decision said notifications were delivered.
“While making the difficult decision to discontinue service, we have provided customers with advanced notice of the change and have shared additional information on service providers in the area,” the statement said.
One of the letters was posted to social media and is headlined “Important Notice Regarding a Change in Your Services.”
“Dear Valued Customer, Please be advised that due to the recent market changes and cost of operating collections in this area, we can no longer effectively service your account effective July 28, 2023,” it said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you transitioning to a new service provider.”
Those who received the notice were implored to obtain a new service provider, with Republic closing its accounts with customers on July 31. Any prepaid amounts were credited to customers in check form, and any balances due were prorated on a final invoice, the letter said.
“Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and will do your best to assist in your service transition needs,” it continued. “Below is a list of potential providers in your area. Thank you for your past business with Republic Services.”
Potential new service providers listed included: Doty Trash Service, based in Aurora, 417-6781350; MO-ARK Disposal, based in Shell Knob, 417319-6282; and Christian County Disposal, based in Highlandville, 417-4430331.
