5 runners dash to state
The Cassville boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Lamar Saturday to compete in the Class 3, District 2 meet. Despite the chilly and rainy weather, every runner recorded a personal best. Five individuals qualified for the 2023 Cross County State Championships, set for 9 a.m. Saturday at Gans Creek in Columbia. For the boys, Ethan Bohmke, Michael Butts and Trever Garnett qualified, and on the girls’ side, Jadyn Williams and Tori Mitchell qualified. The girls team finished seventh overall, and the boys finished sixth. Individual results include (top 30 are All-District and state qualifiers):

Wildcats upset Greenwood to advance in districts
The Cassville boys soccer team (15-7-1), ranked No. 5 in Class 2, District 5, upset No. 4 Greenwood, 1-0, on Monday in Logan-Rogersville. Cassville’s lone goal came via a senior connection, with Ashton Wheeler scoring on a Jackson Ray corner kick. The Wildcats will continue their postseason run on Thursday, facing tournament host undefeated Logan-Rogersville (22-0), ranked No. 1 in the district and No. 1 overall in Class 2, on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. Cassville played Logan-Rogersville on Sept. 26 in Cassville, scoring with 17 seconds on the clock to tie it 1-1 and force overtime. Logan-Rogersville scored in the second half of overtime to take the 2-1 win. It was one of eight of the top-seeded team’s regular-season games to be decided by just one goal.
Retired NFL running back hosting camp in Cassville
Avery’s Legends Program is coming to the Cassville YMCA, with the winter session going from Nov. 6 to Jan. 2, 2024. The Program is a fun, high-energy camp put on by John Avery, retired NFL running back for the Miami Dolphins. The camp develops fundamentals in all sports, including speed, confidence, strength and agility, all while gaining positive self-awareness. Older classes will also focus on the importance of avoiding drug and alcohol abuse and the challenges that come with peer pressure. The Program is from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Mondays for ages 6-9; from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays for ages 11-13; and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays for ages 14-18. Cassville hosting basketball camp for grades 3-6
The Cassville High School girls basketball team will host a basketball camp for grades 3-6 on Nov. 2, Nov. 6, Nov. 9 and Nov. 13. All camps will be from 6-7:15 p.m. at the high school gym except for Nov. 9, which will be held at the same time but at the Rock Gym. There is no cost, and participants must be pre-registered before the first camp date on Nov. 2 (Thursday). A free T-shirt will be provided by Security Bank.
