The Shell Knob in The Spotlight (SKITS) community theater actors group are working arduously putting the finishing touches on their respective roles for the comedy “Trouble-In-Tumbleweed.”
The play will be on stage Nov. 17-19 at the Central Community United Methodist Church in Shell Knob.
This fast-paced comedy is set in the Arizona Territory in the 1880s in the dusty town of Tumbleweed. Sue Klassen takes the reigns as the director of this large cast of interesting, entertaining and colorful personalities.
The pompous Mayor Oates of Tumbleweed has been hired by a Boston businessman to build a town that will one day be the Territory’s capital. He has hired his incompetent relatives to run things, and he has nothing to show for it.
When a letter arrives that a Pinkerton detective agent is coming to inspect the town, panic and a sense of impending disaster grips the mayor and all the relation.
Coupled with this dilemma, traveling medicine man Professor Burns makes an unexpected visit and creates suspicion and fear among the folks of that he is more than just a huckster down on his luck.
From there, the plot thickens with a ton of knee-slapping antics involving all the town’s people, including the likes of Miranda Oates, gambling lady Lily De Lilac, and a host of memorable characters from the old west. And, of course, there’s a bit of romance to spice things up just a bit.
“Trouble-In-Tumbleweed” at the Central Community United Methodist Church will be at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 and Nov. 18, and 2 p.m. on Nov. 19. The church is located at 25682 State Hwy. YY in Shell Knob. Tickets may be purchased in advance online at skitsmo. com for $12 each, or at the door for $15 each.
