Lady Wildcats sending 2 to state
The Cassville girls wrestling team is sending two athletes to the 2024 MSHSAA Girls Wrestling State Championships Feb. 23-24 in Columbia. Senior Faith James moves to 43-2 on the season, pinning her way to a district title at 135 pounds. Joining her at state will be fellow senior Hailey Roark, who moved to 32-7 after taking second place at 140 pounds. Roark also won her 150th career match at the Class 1, District 3 tournament in Nevada. As a team, Cassville finished in seventh. Marshfield won the event. Full results for Cassville include:

Dickinson sets school record at William Jewell
The William Jewell men’s and women’s track and field teams competed in the 2024 Bearcat Open on Feb. 2, where Cassville alum Bradan Dickinson was one of two athletes to break school records. Dickinson, a sophomore, broke his own record in the men’s weight throw, upping his high to 17.25 meters to place fifth. The same day, his teammate, Noah Mayo, broke a 19-year-old record in the men’s 600 yards with a time of 1:15.38, breaking Tom Eisenhauer’s previous mark. Dickinson’s results at the meet included: Shot put (13.83 meters), 18th place; and weight throw (17.25 meters), 5th place. Dickinson’s 17.25 meters ranks him 6th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Trojans take No. 1 seed in districts
The Southwest boys basketball team (18-6) have secured the No. 1 seed in the Class 3, District 12 tournament in Lamar, which begins on Tuesday. Southwest is riding a four-game win streak as of Monday. The Trojans hosted Crane on Tuesday and wrap the regular season on Friday at Lighthouse Senior High. In districts, Southwest will face the winner of No. 4 Pierce City and No. 5 Sarcoxie at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22, and on the bottom of the bracket, No. 2 Lamar will face the winner of No. 3 Marionville and No. 6 Diamond. The Trojans have wins this season over Pierce City, Marionville and Diamond. The championship is on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. All games are being played in Lamar.
Exeter No. 5 in district tourney
The Exeter boys basketball team (7-13) has earned the No. 5 seed in Class 1, District 5 tournament in Walnut Grove. On Tuesday, the Tigers face No. 4 School of the Ozarks, with the winner set to face No. 1 Walnut Grove on Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. Exeter has fallen to School of the Ozarks twice this season, by scores of 56-54 and 53-24. Other match-ups include No. 2 Billings against No. 7 Everton and No. 3 McAuley Catholic against No. 6 Hurley. The championship is at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 24.
Southwest girls No. 5 seed
The Southwest girls basketball team (2-21) will take the No. 5 seed into the Class 3, District 12 tournament in Lamar, facing No. 4 Lamar at 6 p.m. on Monday. The winner will face No. 1 Clever at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21. The bottom of the bracket is a semifinal between No. 2 Diamond and No. 3 Sarcoxie. The title game is set for Feb. 23 at 6 p.m.
