Prom dress Extravaganza on March 29
SWMO ReStore and Builds will host a Prom Dress Extravaganza on March 19 at the business, located at 201 E. 7th St. in Cassville. Area students attending prom are invited to shop and try on dresses, all of which will be free. The ReStore is asking the community to donate gently used prom dresses at the store prior to March 29. Christian Business Lunch on March 19
Cassville United Methodist Church will host a Christian Business Lunch on March 19 at noon. The event is a time for connection, encouragement, growth, lunch, conversation and devotion. The cost is $10 and lunch is pre-ordered. People must RSVP no later than March 16 by calling 417-847-2328. The lunch is open to all denominations.
Senior Center offers tax preparation
The Cassville Senior Center and Senior Age, with the help of well-trained and experienced Volunteer Tax Preparers are currently assisting seniors with their Tax preparations. This assistance to Seniors started in February and will continue through April. Exeter preschool screenings coming up
Exeter schools had announced screenings for the 2024-2025 school year. Screenings for Preschool will be on April 10. Screenings for Kindergarten will be on April 11. To participate, parents or guardians must bring proof of residency (something with the physical address of where they live), immunization record and birth certificate. Early Childhood students should turn 3 before Aug. 1. Preschool students should turn 4 before Aug. 1. Kindergarten students should turn 5 before Aug. 1. Barry County Democratic Committee monthly meeting
The Barry County Democratic Committee will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at El Mariachi Restaurant in Cassville. The Missouri Democratic Primary is set for March 23, with in-person voting with voting taking place at the Crowder Cassville Campus, located at 4020 N. Main St. in Cassville. Mail-in ballots may be requested at https://request.mrgvote.com/missouri.
Waste Management District to meet
The Southwest Missouri Waste Management District N will hold its monthly Executive Board meeting at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday at Angus Branch Steakhouse in Monett. This meeting is open to the public. A teleconference number will also be available for this meeting. CHS bands to perform
The Wildcat Jazz and Cassville High School state band musicians will preset live music at Zone 4 Mini Golf and More on March 16 from 4-6 p.m. Admission to this outdoor music event is $5 per person, and 10 percent of all Zone 4 sales on March 16 will be donated back to the Band Boosters.
Opioid fund applications available
Applications for Opioid funds are available from Barry County. Applications can be picked up at the Barry County Clerk’s office at 700 Main St, Ste. 2 Cassville MO 65625 or digital form available on the Barry County Clerk’s website: barrycoclerk.com. Rules for organizations applying for funds can also be found on the website. Completed applications should be mailed or brought to the clerk’s office at the above address.
Cassville schools hosting community viewing
The Cassville school district will host a Community Viewing Event on March 5 at 6 p.m. at the FEMA Event Center, showing the documentary “Childhood 2.0: The Living Experiment.” The documentary aims to educate parents, guardians and community members about the inherent challenges and dangers of the digital world. “Anybody that is raising a child is invited to attend this special screening of an impactful documentary shedding light on the dangers of social media and technology,” a Cassville press release said. Viewer discretion is advised, as the documentary contains sensitive and explicit content. Childcare will be available (must RSVP). The documentary may be viewed at www.childhood2movie.com, and a link to childcare signup is http://tinyurl.com/2nr56wb9. “Please note that this event is not recommended for anyone under the age of 13 due to the mature nature of the film,” Cassville’s release said. “Our preference is that this event is for adults only. However, if parents choose to watch the documentary with their child, we recommend doing so in a home setting where they can have open conversations as the movie is played.”
Voter registration ends today
The last day to register to vote is today (Wednesday) for those who are not current registered voters of Barry County and who wish to vote in the April 2 General Municipal Election. People may register to vote at the County Clerk’s Office; the Monett Chamber of Commerce; or the Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce. Anyone who has moved and not updated their address, or had a name change, should notify the county clerk’s office. Photo ID is required to vote in the April General Municipal Election. Absentee began Feb. 20 at the Barry County Clerk’s Office in Cassville and is ongoing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two-week in-person, no excuse absentee voting begins March 19. If unable to vote in person, a voter may send a written request to: Joyce Ennis, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. The Office will need: name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and signature. Those who live in the Shell Knob or Monett areas can go to the Shell Knob Chamber or Monett Chamber Office and fill out the absentee application. The last day to request an absentee ballot by mail is March 20. They will fax it to the Barry County Clerk’s office. Absentee applications are also available at sos.mo.gov. Cassville Farmers’ Market open twice per week
The Cassville Farmers’ Market is open for the season, running twice a week on Tuesdays from 4-7 p.m. across from Security Bank and Saturdays on the Cassville Square from 8 a.m. to noon. OATS rides available in Barry County
OATS Transit offers regular transportation services for the rural general public of any age, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Please call the local OATS Transit office at 417-887-9272 or 800-770-6287 to schedule a ride or find out about services in the Barry County area. People may also visit the OATS website at oatstransit.org to view local schedules under “Bus Schedules,” then click on the county of service. OATS offices will be closed, and regular routes will not be running on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day. Please keep this in mind as trips are scheduled near these holidays. OATS Transit is hiring drivers statewide to can continue serving riders. Openings are listed on the OATS website.
Seligman dances ongoing each Saturday
The Seligman Chamber of Commerce country dances at the Seligman Chamber Event Center are every Saturday from 7-10 p.m. No alcohol is allowed. Admission is $10 per person, and 18-and-under are free.
