1. Why do you want to be on the city council, and what qualifications support your candidacy?
I have never been a candidate for anything. I worked at Campbell Soup for 29 years as a union shop representative, so I dealt with a lot of people.
2. If elected, what do you see as your top priorities?
I would like to see some changes in Seligman. We do not have a doctor, and there’s clinics in Gateway and Avoca, but we can’t get one. I’d also like to see a pharmacy here, because the closest one is about 15 minutes either way. Were have a lot of older people who have been here all their lives.
3. What will be your approach to managing the city’s finances?
I do not know how much connection I will have with that part. I am new at that.
But, I’d like to see a leash law enforced and animals not be running the streets unsupervised. I think if you love your dogs, you will keep them well-behaved or on a leash.
4. Are there specific areas of the budget you like to cut, or any areas you would fund more?
We need a new water system, and if we could get more people to annex, I understand that will open us up for grants to improve it.
5. What will be your approach to economic development and growth of the city?
I’d like to see a nice restaurant. Several have tried but they all fizzle out.
I’d like to see more people interested in planning and zoning because a lot of the city officials are assigned to it, and that can be a conflict of interest. I’d like to see more support from the people in Seligman. I’ve gone to a few meetings and there’s not a soul din there but us. If people would take an interest and pull together as a community then we can make a different. Otherwise, we are just butting our heads against a brick wall.
6. What (if any) capital projects would you like to pursue if elected?
We have a state-of-the art fire department, but we need an ambulance shed here.
