Man wielding knife, threatening arson arrested

38-year-old being held on $75K cash bond

A Cassville man has been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly assaulting multiple people at a home in Cassville and threatening to commit arson.

Russell Clancy, 38, of Cassville, is charged with first-degree burglary, second- degree assault, armed criminal action and misdemeanor fourth-degree assault.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Officer Garrett Marshall, with the Cassville Police Department, authorities were dispatched at 4:14 p.m. on March 12 to an address in the city limits of Cassville in reference disturbance.

Upon arrival, Marshall made contact with the first victim, who said Clancy had allegedly entered her house uninvited while she was inside and began assaulting a second victim by striking him with his hands.

The altercation moved to the front yard, where Clancy allegedly brandished a pocket knife and threatened to stab a third victim, then threatened to burn down the first victim’s house.

Marshall then made contact with a fourth victim, who said she “heard a commotion up the road” as she was walking her service dog. She said Clancy approached them, and her dog began to bark.

The victim said Clancy allegedly then tried to strike and stab the animal.

“Victim No. 4 told Clancy to keep walking and he threatened to burn her house down with her inside,” Marshall’s statement said.

Clancy is being held in the Barry County jail on a $75,000 cash-only bond. He has been arraigned, and a bond hearing is set for Thursday at 9 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.

Clancy has charges pending for first-degree burglary and stealing in July 2023, as well as fourth-degree assault in November 2023. He also has a 2005 felony conviction for possession of a controlled substance.

Marshall’s report does not list Clancy as under the influence of any intoxicants.
