The Cassville boys and girls track and field squads will head to Mountain Grove on Saturday, aiming to qualify to the Class 3 MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships on May 17-18 in Jefferson City.
At the Class 3, District 6 meet in Lamar on Saturday, the girls advanced four events to sectionals, and the boys advanced three.
Jadyn Williams led finishers with a runner-up performance in the 400-meter dash, running a 1:01.72, just over a second behind the winner. Advancing with a fourth-place finish was the 4×100 relay team of Brynn Whittenburg, Makaiden Bolles, Claire Reuter and Evelyn Elliott, and Aaliyah Franklin finished fourth in shot put and in discus.
The boys advanced to sectionals in the 4×800 relay, with the team of Ethan Bohmke, Trever Garnett, Jacob Hudson and Kaid Williams taking third place. Ashton Wheeler, who beat his own school record in the long jump at the Big 8 Championships in Mt. Vernon, advanced with a fourth-place finish in districts. Bohmke also will compete on Saturday in the 1600-meter run after finishing fourth in districts.
