Chadwick awarded music scholarship

Stewards of the Dr. Russell Robinson Music Education Scholarship have announced Vincent Chadwick is the 2024 recipient.

The Robinson scholarship, in the amount of the $2,000, is awarded annually to a qualifying Cassville senior who is going into the field of music education.

Jon Horner, ex-officio chairman of the Robinson Scholarship Committee, said Chadwick will be pursuing a degree in music education in the fall, with the desire of becoming a middle school or high school music teacher.

Additionally, it was announced that Kaitlyn Stockton, the 2019 recipient of the Dr. Russell Robinson Music Education Scholarship, was recently hired to be the Middle School choir teacher at Cassville R-IV.

“It’s so exciting to see Kaitlyn coming back to teach at Cassville,” Robinson said. “She has a bright future ahead of her. Kaitlyn will be teaching in the same classroom where I taught during my time at Cassville. Seeing the results of the scholarship come full circle if very gratifying.”

Robinson was a middle and high school vocal and instrumental teacher at Cassville from 19741979, before completing his masters in music education at the University of Miami in 1980. He returned to Cassville to teach in 1980-1981 before returning to the University of Miami to complete his Ph.D. in Music Education in 1984. From 1984-2016, he was professor of music and head of music education at the University of Florida and retired in the Spring of 2016 as emeritus professor.

He is an internationally renowned educator, speaker, conductor, choral composer, and arranger. Robinson’s many conducting venues have included Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, Boston’s Symphony Hall and the White House.

He has over 300 publications in print with numerous publishers, including choral arrangements, books and instructional DVD’s. He has been a speaker and consultant for international schools and conferences worldwide, including Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, South America, North America, and Central America.

Robinson started providing this scholarship in 2018 because of all the Cassville school district, students and community afforded him when he began his music teaching career, and to support future Cassville music students who want to teach music.
