— MISSOURI MUST DESIGNATE AREA FLOOD DAMAGED
Granting of federal flood disaster funds for repair of roads in Barry County will depend on Governor Christopher Bond declaring this area eligible for this assistance, according to Leon Jackson, consulting highway engineer for the county court. Jackson said this week this process must be followed to secure assistance. Up-dated estimates have approximately $329,880 in damage to county roads. Another $40,000 damage was incurred to Cassville city streets and approximately $10,000 in city park damage during recent high waters. Jackson said Carl Carson of the Missouri disaster office, made a preliminary inspection of road damage last week. This was followed by an inspection by the Missouri Highway Department. These reports will be submitted to Governor Bond for a decision to request federal assistance. Local officials say the estimated figures are still not firm. Looking further into existing problems could possibly produce more damage figures. An approval from the state of the situation in this area would be followed by inspections and estimates from federal disaster officials. There has been no time schedule placed on the processes to acquire the aid. Jackson estimates about 792 miles of the county’s 1,000 miles of roads were damaged some. Least of this damage was evidenced on blacktopped roads. Of the roads inspected, one-third did not have sufficient damage that could not be repaired in regular routine maintenance by the road districts involved. Another third had damage that could cost $246 per mile to repair. The heaviest damage was reported in another third that would require $792 per mile to return to normal condition. One bridge in McDonald Road district, estimated to cost $12,000 to replace, was demolished by the heavy waters. Application for state designation of the county as a flood disaster area is being submitted by the Barry County Court.

— CHS GRAD STARTS AT WILLIS
Annette Preddy of Cassville has been named secretary of Willis Insurance Co. here, according to Max Cooper. Miss Preddy, a CHS graduate, holds degrees from the University of Missouri. She replaces Kathleen Speer of Cassville who retired after 20 years with the agency.
— CAMPGROUND DEVELOPMENT PURCHASED
There are new owners of an extensive campground development on Roaring River west of Eagle Rock. Purchasing the 30-acre development recently were Mr. and Mrs. James DeMonia of the state of Louisiana. Included in the facility are 51 units with electrical and water hookups and 30 tent sites. The facility also provides a modern swimming pool at the area. The business is available for group or individual campouts in the Table Rock Lake community.

— NEW OWNER AT EAGLE ROCK DOCK
The longest tenure of operation of a marina on Table Rock Lake has ended as Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Edwards have sold Eagle Rock Landing to Don King of Wichita, Ks. Edwards had operated the dock 19 years, as only the third owner since the facility was built in 1958. King said this week he planned extensive changes and additions to the 120 stall dock located at the Highway 86 crossing of the reservoir in the Eagle Rock community. He was formerly a regional supervisor of a grain company in Kansas. He presently resides in the Lampe community on Table Rock. The new owner will keep present staffers, Darrel Tilford as manager, Jack Hall, John Bailey and Mike Bailey. Edwards, in retirement, leaves the status of being the most senior marina operator on Table Rock. His tenure began 19 years ago. Eagle Rock Dock was constructed and opened to the public in 1958. King becomes only the third owner of the facility since it first opened under the managership of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Obins. Former owners will include retirement and tending to other interests after the sale. Edwards will retire, Mrs. Edwards will remain associated with Lazy Eagle Resort near the dock and Hickory Hills Treasure House between Cassville and Roaring River State Park. King said leases with the Army Corps of Engineers for operation of facilities at Eagle Rock have been completed. He said planning for the future of the facility also included adding new recreational rentals and upgrading the dock and services as quickly as possible.
— CALVARY BAPTIST REBUILD BEING DEDICATED
Calvary Baptist Church of Exeter, destroyed by arson in September last year, will hold dedication service this Sunday, according to pastor Richard Jones. A morning worship is planned, followed by a carry-in dinner. Dedication is planned for 1:30 p.m.
