Wildcats run to awards in Seneca
The Cassville cross country teams went to Seneca on Thursday to compete in a large field of runners. The middle school boys, led by race winner Dade Zajac, were the champions of their division, and the middle school girls were runners-up. The high school girls finished in a close 5th place, while the boys finished in 6th. Individual results include:

Wildcats 3rd at Warrior Classic
The Cassville boys soccer team (2-2) took third place at the NCA Warrior Classic over the last week. The Wildcats fell in the opener to Willard, 4-2, but bounced back with a win over Marshfield, 4-1, where all 20 eligible players saw time on the field. Cassville cemented the third-place finish with a 1-0 victory over Fair Grove. Sophomore Diego Ibarra scored the 78th-minute game-winner, assisted by David Rehbach. The win was the first shutout for junior goalkeeper Logan Wingo and the Cassville defense. The Wildcats also played their home opener on Sept. 10, falling7 4-0 to Lighthouse Christian. Cassville hosted Monett in the Barry County FutBrawl on Tuesday. The Wildcats travel to Marshfield on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
Cassville softball holding even
The Cassville softball team entered the week at .500 with a 5-5 record, picking up a win and dropping two games last week. The Lady Wildcats bested Carl Junction, 11-3, at home on Sept. 9, then fell to Nevada the following day, 3-0. Cassville also dropped a close matchup with Seneca on Thursday, 2-1. The Lady Wildcats hosted Monett on Tuesday and travel to Aurora on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
Cassville battling through tough competition
The Cassville volleyball team (1-4) has had a trying start to the season against formidable opponents, two of which are already nearly at 10 wins this season. Cassville fell in straight sets to Pleasant Hope (9-5-2), Clever (9-1) and Hillcrest (3-1) last week. The Lady Wildcats played at Berryville Monday, hosted Seneca Tuesday and will face Rees Spring on the road Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. start time.
Wildcat Takedown Club sign-ups next week
The Wildcats Takedown Club youth wrestling program will host sign-ups at the FEMA Event Center (behind Cassville middle School, on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. and Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Youth in kindergarten through eighth grade (ages 5-14) may sign up. The cost is $125 per wrestler, which includes a USA Wrestling card, singlet, T-shirt and shorts. No late sign-ups will be accepted. New wrestlers must being a copy of their birth certificate.
