Lady Wildcats split Big 8 games

The Cassville softball team (11-9) stayed above .500 by splitting a pair of Big 8 contests last week. The Lady Wildcats fell on the road to McDonald County, 7-3, but defeated district rival Nevada, 6-1. It was the third contest of the year against the Lady Tigers, with Cassville winning in an early season tournament and Nevada taking the first Conference bout. The Lady Wildcats play a pair of home games this week, as they hosted Neosho on Tuesday and face Big 8 foe Seneca on Thursday. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Volleyball continues looking for wins

The Cassville volleyball team (2-12-1) is looking to snap a 5-game skid this week, having lost three in a row last week, including to two Big 8 opponents. On Sept. 23, the Lady Wildcats fell at home to Diamond, 3-0 (7-25, 12-25, 14-25), and the next day, fell to Nevada on the road, 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 15-25). On Thursday, Cassville returned home to face Big 8 foe Lamar, falling in straight sets (18-25, 16-25, 14-25). Each of those opponents have double-digit wins this season. Cassville played at Buffalo and at Monett Monday and Tuesday, and the Lady Wildcats return home Thursday to host East Newton. Cassville will also participate in the Mt. Vernon Tournament this weekend.

Upward basketball, cheer sign-ups underway

The Upward basketball and cheer program is currently hosting sign-ups for children in kindergarten through sixth grades. Evaluations will be Oct. 28, Oct. 29 and Nov. 2. The deadline to sign up is Nov. 2, and the cost is $50 per children until Oct. 26 and $60 per child from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2. Barry County Bows raffling AR

The Barry County Bows youth archery club is raffling a Wise Arms AR 350 Legend on Oct. 23. Tickets are $20 for one entry or $100 for six entries, and the winning ticket will be drawn by a youth club member on Oct. 23. People may purchase entries from any club member or by call or text to Lindsay Doucet at 443-896-3369. People may also purchase entries by messaging the “4H Archery Barry County” Facebook page. Prize pick-up will be at Quick Draw in Monett, and the winner must be able to pass a general background check. Proceeds from the raffle benefit the Barry County Bows and will be used for equipment.
