Sales tax income in September to Barry County cities and the county government inched upward from a year ago, creeping back to the 2022 level but still 4% under the peak at the pandemic surge in local sales in 2021.
The seven Barry County cities collecting sales tax received $869,577.68 in September, up 1% from a year ago. All the recipients saw gains except for Monett.
Cassville’s 1% tax paying general bills generated $128,727.19, up $69.36 from a year ago, the seventh consecutive monthly gain. That put the 2024 total up by 5% from 2023.
Seligman saw its 1% general fund tax bring in $15,281.73, up $1,113.96 or almost 8% from last September, the fourth gain in six months. That bumped the 2024 sum up by 6%.
Purdy’s 1% tax yielded $7,026.06, up $2,182.47 to break two months of lower totals. That boosted Purdy’s general fund up to 6% over last year’s pace.
Exeter’s 1% general fund tax produced $4,404.98, up $1,718.99, the fifth gain in six months. Exeter’s 2024 is up 39% from a year ago.
Wheaton’s 1% tax received $5,986.01, up $994.09 from last September. Overall Wheaton’s general fund receipts are down for the year by 9%.
Washburn’s 1% sales tax took in $4,103.48 to pay general bills, up $274.90 from a year ago. Washburn’s general fund for 2024 is down 11% from a year ago.
Monett’s two taxes collected for the general fund generated $220,880.89, down $1,335.27 from last September. For the year, general fund revenues are down 3%, but factoring in the city’s use tax, revenues from all five taxes and the use tax are up by more than $300,000 or 7%.
Barry County’s two older half-cent sales taxes supporting the general fund and maintaining roads each brought in more than $276,737.78, up more than $17,330 or nearly 7%. Not counting the use tax, Barry County receipts are up 5%.
The separate .375% sales tax supporting central dispatching and 911 services pulled in $207,523.72 for the month, a gain of nearly $13,000 over a year ago. That boosted the 2024 sum above last year by 2%.
