Two men were arrested and charged with felonies on Oct. 2 after allegedly attempting to steal from an outbuilding at a Purdy property.

Edward Johnson, 52, of La Russell, and Travis Bone, 47, of Cassville, are both are charged with second-degree burglary, and Johnson is also charged with possession of a controlled substance.

According to probable cause statements filed by Deputy Billy Forester, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, at about 6:07 a.m., deputies responded to an address in Purdy for a burglary in progress.

At about 6:15 a.m., Forester arrived on the scene and secured the residence, then approached a building on the northeast side of the property, where he allegedly found Johnson and Bone hiding inside.

Johnson, who Forester said he saw ducking beneath the door window, said he intended to take gasoline from the property. While searching Johnson after his arrest, Forester located folded aluminum foil in his front left pants pocket. Johnson allegedly said it was ‘a little bit of fentanyl’ and said it was ‘maybe two hits worth.’

Bone allegedly acknowledged he did not have permission to enter the building, and he also stated he intended to steal gas.

Criminal summons have been issued for both men, with hearings scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 7 in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
