Claudia Colleran: Credit due to a good neighbor in Cassville

Dear Editor:

I want to tell you about a Good Neighbor act that occurred prior to your article published Sept. 23.

My husband and I were having dinner at The Rib and happened to get into a conversation with owner Zanetta Campbell about military veterans. I mentioned to her that a non-profit organization, Charlie 22 Outdoors, was having an event at Fisher’s of Men Family Resort in Cassville the weekend of Sept. 27.

I explained to her that Charlie 22 Outdoors is a non-profit organization that provides no-cost “outdoor activities to our nation’s veterans, and their families, with the goal of showing them there is hope, love, and a personal meaning in God’s grace.” I explained that we expected approximately 50 veterans for a weekend of fishing at Roaring River State Park, an annual retreat for the organization.

Immediately, Mrs. Campbell offered to host, at no cost to Charlie 22 Outdoors, 50 steak dinners at The Rib on Friday night.

To say I was speechless is an understatement.

Long-story short, due to logistics, we were not able to transport the veterans to the restaurant. This did not deter Mrs. Campbell one bit. She and her husband went out and bought a portable grill and asked what time they should be at Fisher’s of Men on Friday night?

A chef and Mrs. Campbell showed up at 4:30 p.m. that Friday, one of the busiest nights for The Rib, at the campground to cook for 50 veterans — for no cost.

Now that is a good neighbor.
