Restored, improved Nativity scene returning to cemetery hill in Cassville

The hill of Oak Hill Cemetery will once again be lit with the life of Jesus this holiday season.

Thanks to a donation by First State Bank of Purdy, the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce has announced the iconic Nativity scene will come to life renewed on Nov. 8.

“This display spreads the joy and meaning of the Christmas season to Cassville and the surrounding communities,” said Morgan Williams, Chamber director.

The Nativity Scene, which first adorned the hill on the south side of Cassville City Park in December of 1983, has been absent the past two years due to deterioration from age and safety concerns for those involved with installation of the aging display.

“With the support of First State Bank of Purdy, the display has been fully redone and enhanced, allowing it to make its grand return this holiday season,” Williams said. “While the new display does not consist of the pieces we have been accustomed to, it was designed with them as well as longevity and safety in mind.

“We are deeply grateful to First State Bank of Purdy for their generous donation, which has made it possible to bring back this important piece of Cassville history. The Nativity Scene is a source of joy for so many, as well as myself, and its return will make this Christmas season even more special for Cassville and the surrounding communities.”

The restored Nativity Scene will be unveiled during a community First Friday Coffee hosted by First State Bank of Purdy at 8 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Cassville City Park.

For those interested in owning a piece of Cassville history, the Chamber will host a live online auction beginning Oct. 21, where people will have the opportunity to bid on the retired nativity pieces. Proceeds from this auction will benefit future projects
