Here we are at the end of 2024.
Now, we are getting ready to open the next page of our lives to a new chapter called 2025. As a writer and avid reader, moving from one chapter to a new one can be a time of regret or apprehension — or excitement.
If the current chapter has been really enjoyable, it’s normal to want to stay right where you are. You don’t want the storyline to end. I’m sure many have had the thought, “Why does this book chapter have to end? I was just really getting into it.”
And, sometimes, you can’t wait to move forward from a chapter that’s been less than pleasing. Good riddance, or let’s get to the next page, is a common thought in this situation.
In many ways, these thoughts mirror life.
Books, just like life have chapters which are going to be better or worse than others. The key is to keep moving the page forward.
As former President Bill Clinton said recently, “In life there are no permanent victories or setbacks. There is always another day ahead for us to move forward to and embrace.”
As we close the book on this year and step into a brand-new one, let’s take a moment to reflect on the journey behind us and the opportunities ahead.
Every day is a fresh chance to dream bigger, live fully, and create moments of joy and connection. And, those opportunities don’t materialize if we aren’t willing to turn the page to the next chapter.
That is why reflecting upon our prior journey is important. Because, you will see many instances of facing obstacles and finding ways to overcome them.
As my beloved Dad used to say, “Not every day will be filled with sunshine, both from a weather or circumstances standpoint.” But, every day is a gift in some way or another.
In this new year, when faced with the cloudy days and overcast people, I encourage you to choose kindness, embrace change, and trust in your ability to overcome challenges. This is definitely easier said than done some days.
I personally know that when I have responded to gloomy days and people with words and actions that would not have made my Mom proud, I have always regretted taking that route.
The time spent on regret was definitely much longer than the time to simply take the high road.
Here’s to growth, gratitude and all the possibilities that lie ahead. May this year bring you happiness, health, and hope.
Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
