A Fulton man has been arrested and charged with a felony after allegedly stealing a vehicle from a victim in Barry County, a crime for which he is on probation for a previous conviction.
Richard Burwell, born 1993, of Fulton, is charged with first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
According to a probable cause statement filed by Deputy Mike McGuire, with the Barry County Sheriff’s Office, the alleged offense was committed on Jan. 9 at about 10:30 p.m. at a location in Barry County.
McGuire said Burwell allegedly took a motor vehicle from the victim without permission, and he allegedly showed McGuire the location of the stolen vehicle and admitted bringing it to the location where it was found.
Sheriff Danny Boyd said his office is not requesting any other charges relating to the incident.
Burwell has a criminal history in Barry County, pleading guilty to two counts of tampering with a motor vehicle and forgery in April 2022, and he is currently on probation for pleading guilty in October 2022 to two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, two counts of stealing – $750 or more, and first-degree property damage.
Those incidents spread four separate cases for charges originating in 2021 and 2022. For the new case, Burwell is being held on a cash-only bond of $15,000.
An entry of appearance has been filed, and a case review is scheduled for Jan. 23 at 8:30 a.m. in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
