The Cassville girls basketball team (12-3) has now won 10 of its last 11 contests following a 3-win week Jan. 13-16. The Lady Wildcats bested Southwest on the road on Jan. 13, 61-30, then followed that performance with a home victory over Galena the following night, 54-22. Cassville wrapped up last week with a 56-31 win over Springfield Central on the road on Thursday. Cassville’s only loss in the last 11 matches, dating back to Dec. 9, 2024, came at home Jan. 6 against conference and district foe Aurora, 51-22. Cassville is participating in the 2025 Lady Comet Classic in Marionville this week, opening play on Tuesday against Ash Grove, with the result unavailable at press time. With a win, Cassville will face the winner of Crane-Mt. Vernon on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., and a loss would match Cassville with the loser of that same matchup on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Seymour
The Cassville boys basketball team (2-10) picked up its second win of the season last week in the Seymour Bank 2025 Winter Classic, edging out a 57-56 victory over Bakersfield in the opening round. Cassville fell in the semifinals to Big 8 foe Aurora, 84-39, then finished the tournament in fourth place after an 83-58 loss to Lighthouse Christian. Cassville is continuing tournament action this week. The Wildcats took the No. 7 seed into the 40th Annual Spokane Invitational, facing No. 2 Strafford on Tuesday, with the result unavailable at press time. With a win, Cassville will face the winner of No. 3 Forsyth and No. 6 Southwest on Thursday at 7 p.m. Losers in both contests will face off in the consolation bracket on Friday at 7 p.m. Cassville’s next home contest is Feb. 4 against Monett, also Cassville’s Tip-Off.
Trojans bag pair of victories
The Southwest boys basketball team (5-10) added a pair of wins to its record last week. On Jan. 14, the Trojans bested Sarcoxie at home, 58-42. They then traveled to Verona on Thursday, picking up a 64-39 win. The only loss of the week came on Friday in a road contest against Miller, 69-54, the only double-digit wins team in the Trojans’ Class 3, District 12. Southwest takes the No. 6 seed into the 40th Annual Spokane Invitational this week. The Trojans faced No. 3 Forsyth on Tuesday, with results not available at press time. Lady Bulldogs 1-2 last week
The Wheaton girls basketball team (3-10) earned one win out of three tries last week, picking up a victory Thursday over Jefferson Independent Day at home, 47-37. The win was sandwiched between losses to Marionville, 61-23, on Jan. 13, and Northeast Vernon County, 48-29, on Friday. Wheaton traveled to Sarcoxie on Monday and faces McAuley Catholic on the road on Tuesday. The next home game is on Feb. 11 against Verona.
Seven Valleys Soccer Club hosting indoor events
Seven Valleys Soccer Club, based in Cassville, is hosting Saturday futsal events weekly through Feb. 22. Play is for youth with birth years 2007-2018, with 2013-2018 from 5-6:15 p.m. and 2007-2012 from 6:30-8 p.m. No experience is necessary, and beginners are welcome. All Saturday futsal will be at the Family Life Center in Cassville, except for on Feb. 1, where a location is to be determined. Participants should bring closetoed shoes and water.
