The Cassville boys wrestling team took second place out of 21 total teams competing in the 62nd People’s Bank of Seneca tournament on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was 165-pound Colton Roark, who took first place in his bracket by pinning all three of his opponents in the first round, including a pin in 19 seconds over one grappler.
Jaret Hinson, at 138 pounds, was the other big finisher on the day, taking second place after falling to Seneca’s Brant Laughlin, Class 2 runner up at 126 pounds last year.
Four Wildcats took third place in Seneca, including Boni Lopez at 106 pounds, Bradley Stumpff at 120 pounds, Rylen Holman at 126 pounds and Easton Hughes at 190 pounds. Jesse James, at 215 pounds, also fought his way to a fourth-place finish.
The Wildcats were able to get the team runner-up finish despite having four of its starters, who frequently medal sidelined in Tristan Thompson, Riley James, Zach Myers and Ethan Sizemore.
“The Seneca tournament was another stepping stone for our team,” said Nathan Fortner, Cassville boys wrestling coach. “We are beating kids that have beat us earlier in the year or closing the gap on our opponents that are beating us.
“I was very proud of the way the kids competed Saturday, and we were missing 4 of our starters. The next two weeks, we will be fine-tuning areas

Cassville has a tri against Logan-Rogersville and Bolivar Thursday, and the Class 2, District 3 Tournament is set for Feb. 21-22 in Seneca.
