Salary hikes boost sheriff’s office staff

More than six months of collection of the half-cent law enforcement sales tax has given the Barry County Sheriff’s Office an immediate boost, and Sheriff Danny Boyd hopes full staffing will come with firmer budget numbers toward the end of this year. The tax measure, intended to fully fund the sheriff’s office with its own sales tax, passed in April 2022 and began collection in October 2022, giving the county a few months of collection with which to project this year’s income.

Cassville Clean-Up Day scheduled

Residents can toss out myriad of items week of May 22 The city of Cassville has set the week for its Cassville Clean-Up Day for May 22, allowing residents to rid their homes of multiple larger items not accepted on normal trash days. Residents can put the excess items on their curbs for pick-up on their regular service day the week of May 22-26.

11th Street to close

Project preparing to cross over Main With open trench construction making progress along 11th Street last week, construction this week will move closer to and eventually across Main Street, with multiple street closures expected. Work will continue in the 300 and 400 Blocks of 11th Street, between East and Harold streets.

Overdoses on the rise

Overdose deaths in Barry County, southwest Missouri, statewide and nationally are all on the rise, and according to the Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team, for every recorded overdose, there may be three times as many more. Chad Allison, commander of ODET, which covers five southwest Missouri counties, said though they know overdoses are occurring, tracking overdose deaths is a challenging task.
