Demolition Derby smashes through Cassville

40 signed up for Women in Nature
Roaring River State Park will have an inflow of women on Saturday, as 40 have signed up for the first Women in Nature course at the park, led by the Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center. Anna Skalicky, naturalist/ resource interpreter at the Nature Center, said signups are full, but women still interested may sign up to be on the wait list should anyone drop out.

It’s electric!
The Cassville school district and Environmental Protection Agency joined on Thursday to celebrate a $1.9 million investment at the district — five new electric school buses paid for entirely by the Clean School Bus Rebate Program. Merlyn Johnson, Cassville superintendent, said the buses have been in service for the last few weeks, receiving rave reviews from riders and athletic teams that have used them.

Zone 4 Mini Golf and More, located at 16007 Hwy. 76 in Cassville, will host a Fall Flea Market on Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Antisemitic flyers circulating in Cassville
Antisemitism is being spread in Cassville. In the last two weeks, sandwich baggies filled with corn to weigh them down have also included an antisemitic flyer, containing headlines claiming “Every single aspect of the” slave trade, mass immigration, media, COVID-19, LGBTQ+ movement and gun control “is Jewish.”
Part of Farm Road 1120 closed during weekdays
Construction of sewer improvements requires the daily closure of Farm Road 1120, between Partridge Drive and Skyline Drive, which began on Friday. The closures are needed each weekday during working hours for the open trench replacement of sewer pipe and manholes. The road will likely be reopened to through traffic each night, with closures reinitiated each day after 8:15 a.m. Contributed photo

Performing Arts Center ground broken
The first stage at the site of the new Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Cassville High School was built on Thursday, a mound of dirt turned by school officials, administrators, students, teachers and community members at the building’s official groundbreaking.

Wastewater project enters new phase
A new phase of the wastewater rehabilitation project began on Friday, with open trench construction in the 1300 Block of Park Avenue. Construction will progress southwest and should advance to Fair Street within 7-10 days.
Lawsuit halts permitting
While Denali Water Solutions and Synagro Central are awaiting a date for judicial review of their suit against the Missouri Fertilizer Control Board for what they allege is the Board’s abrupt change in interpretation of the Missouri Fertilizer Law, a group of residents from Randolph County have filed suit against the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for what they allege is an overstepping of the department’s authority relating to Denali. According to their petition, Citizens of Randolph County Against Pollution (CRAP) allege that the DNR has exceeded its statutory authority by allowing Denali to construct what they say is a “solid waste processing facility” in their county without the permits required by law.
County in line for federal disaster declaration
Gov. Mike Parson has requested that President Joe Biden approve a major disaster declaration to provide federal assistance in 33 counties in response to multiple severe weather systems that impacted Missouri from July 29 through Aug. 14.
