The Barry County Genealogical and Historical Society will travel by car caravan to Claremore, Okla., on Sept. 19 to visit and enjoy a private tour of The Belvidere Manson, the home John Bayless built in Oklahoma Indian Territory after he moved his family from Cassville.

Construction to block East 13th
East 13th Street near Rocky Edmondson Park will be closed either Wednesday or Thursday due to construction associated with the city of Cassville's sewer project.

Exeter Corn Maze open for season

Horsin’ around town
An uncommon call came into the Cassville Police Department on Monday morning — horse on the loose. The mild-mannered mare was spotted in the Cassville City Park just after 7 a.m., making her way south on the Greenway Trail to the Aquatic Center, where a bystander called the situation in. Cassville Police Officer Zack Thompson, pictured, led the horse into a baseball field using a dog leash, then blocked off exits with vehicles and nearby garbage bins to keep her contained.
August sales tax results mixed
Sales tax revenues to Barry County’s cities and county government dropped moderately in August, compared to a year ago. While receipts generally held steady, the biggest city, Monett, recorded big enough dips to pull down the overall county totals.
Wheaton schools receive $46K grant
The Wheaton school district has been awarded a portion of grant money offered through the USDA Healthy Meal Incentives for Schools program. According to the USDA, the district received $46,509, which it intends to use primarily for a new walk-in freezer, plus other items to be determined.

Soil and Water Outcomes Fund enrollment open
The Soil and Water Outcomes Fund, a leading agricultural ecosystem services program, announced that farmers from 49 additional Missouri counties, including Barry, are eligible to enroll in its program.

Cassville man celebrates 97th birthday
Chuck Whitcomb, of Cassville, celebrated his 97th birthday on Sunday. Whitcomb is pictured at his birthday party with his cake, which was brightly lit with 97 candles.

Exeter grad awarded Ozark Teacher Corps scholarship
Micha “Mindi” Peckham, a 2005 graduate of Exeter High School, has received the Ozark Teacher Corps scholarship, administered by the Community Foundation of the Ozarks. Peckham, the daughter of Mike Stewart, will attend Missouri Southern State University this fall, where she plans to complete a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
