Fast and fortified

A lone senior will lead the Cassville softball team on the diamond this season, with the Lady Wildcats looking to utilize their speed and defensive prowess to have a shot at a district title in consecutive seasons. Lori Videmschek, Cassville softball coach, said Cassville is returning six starters from the 16-12 squad that fell to Seneca in the Class 3, District 6 championship last season.

Lady ‘Cats hit the links

With the largest roster ever, the Cassville girls golf team is hoping to make history this season with the number of state qualifiers and build the program for years to come. Jay Rogers, Cassville golf coach, said this year’s squad is led by a trio of seniors, including a two-time state medalist.

Jig On the Water

August 30, 2023 The river is clearer now, but still not completely clear, running at 32 CFS at the moment. The trout are taking dries again pretty good, and they are still eating beetles, ants, hoppers, small stimulators, caddis and blue wing olives, and there are still nice trico hatches first thing in the morning, midges almost all day and a few sulphurs in the evening.

The Southwest volleyball team has its best offense in the last three years, according to Coach Steve Voyak, and the Lady Trojans are looking to show it this season. Southwest returns eight players with varsity experience, and three seniors are taking the lead in unique ways at times — like with a book club.

‘Cats kick off season Saturday

The Cassville football team kicks off its season on Saturday, returning 10 lettermen to a squad that lost 13 starters from the 2022 season. Clay Weldy, Cassville football coach, is in his second year at the helm of the program, aiming to turn youth and inexperience into a force to be reckoned with in the Big 8 West this season.
