The first annual Big 8 Pickleball Tournament was held at the Monett City Park on Saturday. Fifty-six students and staff from five Big 8 districts competed in four tournaments.

Three senior Cassville boys athletes signed letters of intent on April 26 to continue their careers in college, one in cross country and track, a second in rugby, and a third in wrestling. Caleb Leach, Class 3 cross country state medalist and new school record-holder in the 3200-meter, penned his name with the University of Missouri-St.

The Cassville girls and boys track and field teams competed at the Class 1-2-3 SBU Invite on April 25, with both squads taking eighth place as teams, with 36 teams on the girls’ side and 37 on the boys’. Jolie Evans also added to her record collection, breaking Cassville’s 3200-meter record with an 11:50.68.
Area softball teams have their seeds determined for upcoming district tournaments, which begin on Friday. Three local schools, Purdy, Exeter and Wheaton, will all play on Friday in the Class 1, District 5 tournament.
Cassville seniors Jolie Evans and Caleb Leach are go-getters. The duo have combined to break three school records this season, and two were in events they do not normally run — but they wanted the records.
At 5-9, the Southwest baseball team’s record is misleading. The Trojans, according to coach Derek Mann, had heavy-hitting opponents in the first half of the season, struggled with practice when the field was being completed and have battled their way through injuries.
Robert Humphries, a junior at Southwest High School, earned seven medals in the last three track meets in Pierce City, Spokane and Cassville. In Pierce City and Spokane, Humphries finished runner-up in the 800, as well as a second and a third in the mile.
