The Cassville girls soccer team went 2-1 over the weekend at the Cassville Kickoff Classic, opening the season with a runner- up finish in the tournament. The Lady Wildcats began the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Aurora, with goals by Gracen Hilburn and Emma Burndt.

The Southwest boys and girls track and field teams start their seasons on Thursday, taking aim at state qualification after a record year for the boys. Steve Voyak, Southwest track coach, said like most sports, track builds to the end.

Cassville girls soccer team keeping chemistry strong A pride point for the Cassville girls soccer team is the chemistry between members, built over five years of positive reinforcement and allowing the team to reload with multiple starters and a full team of letterwinners returning. Jake Forste, Cassville soccer coach, said the Lady Wildcats, coming off a 9-14 season last year, hope to play to their strengths this season.

One to remember

When it comes to reaching goals, the Southwest boys basketball team has few regrets this season. The Class 3, District 12 champions, for the first time in 57 years, and Southwest Holiday Tournament champions turned in a 21-8 season filled with excitement and celebration.
