30 YEARS AGO: FIREWORKS SHOW FINALE — So bright was the Shell Knob fireworks finale, film didn’t separate the display, but obviously provided a lighting of the Central Crossing Bridge over Table Rock at right. Special firings of the Shell Knob C of C program boats ands spectators along the way who yelled, honked horns and flashed lights as their method of approving the show.

Terry Family Fireworks show lights up Purdy

According to the Purdy Police Department, on July 3, one of the pyrotechnicians setting off the fireworks display at the Terry Family Fireworks Show in Purdy was seriously injured when the final mortar shell misfired, striking him in the shoulder. The technician was conscious and alert at the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to a trauma center in Springfield.

Exeter trap team takes conference

The Exeter High School trap team just finished the spring season and attended the Missouri State High School Clay Target League State event in Linn Creek. Team members include: Tanner Raney, Jeremiah Reed, Tristan Voyles, Star Xiong, Lily Stevenson, Trinity Atkinson, Brexton Bowman, Briley Hargus, Rain Xiong, Jacob Stevenson and Cooper Caddell. The team took first place in the conference. Individual awards for the boys went to Voyles, 4th place, and Raney 8th place. Individual awards for the girls went to Star Xiong, 1st place; Stevenson, 3rd place; and Atkinson, 10th place. Also receiving awards for shooting a perfect 25 targets without a miss were Raney, Reed and Voyles.

Business 37, Route 76 to be resurfaced

Drivers can expect lane closures and occasional traffic delays on Business 37 in Cassville and Missouri Route 76 in Barry and McDonald counties for a resurfacing project beginning Monday, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. This is where the work is being done: • Business 37 (Main Street) from Missouri Route 37 north of Cassville south approximately three (3) miles through town to Missouri Route 76 (5th Street) • Missouri Route 76 from McDonald County Route U south of Rocky Comfort east approximately 17 miles to Missouri Route 37 in Cassville On Business 37, the contractor will remove the old driving surface and replace it with a new asphalt surface and permanent striping.

Multiple factors affect visitors, revenue at RRSP

Ozarks Region Deputy Director Carl Bonnell says he doesn’t put too much stock in visitor counts at individual Missouri state parks, perhaps because the revenue generated within parks represents the smaller fraction (25%) of the total revenue upon which the parks system budgets. The remaining 75% of operating and developmental expenses are covered by the constitutional, 1/10-cent Parks, Soils and Water Sales Tax, first approved by Missouri voters in 1984, and reapproved multiple times since then.
